Discord partners with PlayStation, integrates services

Swooping in at the last minute following Discord's last-minute pulling out of acquisition talks with Microsoft, Sony has made a minority investment in the social gaming platform as part of its Series H investment round.

As part of a press release, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan talked at length about the company's shared objectives to bring players together and promised that, from early next year, the Discord and PlayStation Network platforms would be integrated to allow for easier communication and community management.

Exactly what form that integration will take isn't yet known (probably even to Sony) at this point, but with Discord's userbase of 140 million people, even a minority stake in the service is a powerful addition to Sony's race for exclusives and services with Microsoft.
