Gamescom 2021 goes all-digital
The German Games Industry Association, which organises the annual Gamescom convention in Köln, Germany, have confirmed that this year's instalment of the European E3 will be all digital and free of charge for all fans to access.
Eschewing huge conference halls and expensive press conferences in favour of a more COVID safe, virtual alternative, Gamescom looks set to continue the success of last year's virtual outing which attracted over 100 million video views. The association has been talking about creating an increased sense of community this year, involving social media 'quests' and other attempts to make Gamescom feel more like a convention and less like a disparate series of youtube videos and live streams.
Regardless, from August 25th to 27th, Gamescom still promises fans press conferences stacked with new game announcements and promises developers opportunities to meet and network with publishers and other industry figures. Digital or not, Gamescom looks set to be just as exciting this year as any other.
