Gears of War 3 is playable on PS3
We never thought that this day would come, but believe it or not, Gears of War 3 is playable on PS3. But how is it possible that an Xbox exclusivity ends up working on a PlayStation?
While Sony is slowly abandoning its old consoles, Epic Games never mentioned a possible revival of Gears of War 3. Indeed the PS3 version has nothing official since it was a prototype developed by the studios to test the game engine on Unreal Engine 3.
It is the Twitter user PixelButts who tweeted earlier, announcing that they had uploaded the build to the Internet Archive website for the 10th anniversary of the game.
Sadly the game is playable on debug PS3 only since it requires more RAM than retail units.
A year ago, at the same date, PixelButts shared a video footage of the PS3 prototype. Despite some frame rate problems and graphical glitches the game seems to run smoothly.
At the same time, Epic Games spokesperson gave some clarifications to Kotaku, regarding this experiment.
“This footage is a byproduct of Epic’s internal Unreal Engine 3 testing process, which utilised both Gears and Unreal Tournament, and was never part of any actual product work for PlayStation 3.”
What do you think about this prototype? If you own a debug PS3 will you give it a go? Let us know in the comments!
