God of War 2 will be delayed until 2022

Sony Santa Monica Studio, developers of the God of War franchise, have today announced on Twitter that the next game in the series will be delayed until 2022.

Originally teased last year, the game was scheduled for a 2021 release along with Horizon Forbidden West, the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn. However, with the studio’s post on Twitter today and the head of PlayStation Studios Herman Hulst announced today, we will not be seeing Kratos again until next year.

Hulst states that (after talking about the Horizon sequel) “For God of War, the project started a little later. So we’ve made the decision to push that game out to next year, to ensure that Santa Monica Studio can deliver the amazing God of War game that we all want to play.”

It’s not all bad news, though as he goes on to say: “Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5 — for Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, GT7 — we’ll continue looking at that.” While this isn’t confirmation that the games are coming to the PlayStation 4, it would be quite daft to stop supporting the console altogether as Hulst recognises and says “You can’t build a community of over 110 million PS4 owners and then just walk away from it”.
