PlayStation Showcase 2021: All you need to know…

Last night, Sony took centre stage (albeit virtually) and released a number of truly jaw-dropping announcements and gameplay trailers! Having watched the showcase, we’ve collated all of last night’s biggest announcements into one article!

The major announcements…

[Announcement Trailer] Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake (PS5)

Sony put their best foot forward and kicked things off with a bang by showing a teaser trailer for a complete remake of the most beloved Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic coming exclusively to the PS5! It’s interesting to note that the game was originally released as an Xbox console exclusive back in 2003.

[Development/Story Trailer] Forspoken (PS5)

Square Enix treated us to a more substantial look at their new action adventure game Forspoken. There isn’t much to say on this game so far except that it looks incredibly ambitious, and with Amy Hennig (creator of Uncharted series) and Gary Whitta (Star Wars: Rogue One) involved it might just be able to live up to its own ambitions.

[Announcement Trailer] Uncharted: A Thief’s End & The Lost Legacy Remaster (PS5/PC)

Nathan Drake and Chloe Frazer will be receiving the 4K treatment as ‘Uncharted 4’ and its sequel spin-off ‘The Lost Legacy’ are soon to be released as a remastered bundle for PS5. Also, for the first time in the series, PC players will also be able to enjoy Nathan Drake’s final foray as the fabled treasure hunter!

[Gameplay Trailer/ Further Look] Ghostwire: Tokyo (PS5)

In compensation for its delayed release from October, Bethesda gave us another look at their spooky, supernatural release, confirming that it would now be in our hands for Spring of 2022. The trailer showed off some new gameplay and what we can expect from our main characters.

[Gameplay Trailer] Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (PS5/PS4)

Ahead of its release date on October 26th 2021, a brand new trailer for Guwas revealed showing Star Lord and his band of misfits in action

[Gameplay Trailer] Alan Wake: Remastered (PS5/PS4)

Although the remaster of Alan Wake was announced a few days prior, it was great to see Alan back in crystal clear 4K! The latest gameplay trailer also included a release date for the game, with players being able to revisit Bright Falls and uncover the mystery which surrounds it on October 5th, 2021.

[Announcement Trailer] Marvel’s Wolverine (PS5)

Catching everyone by surprise, Insomniac Studios (the folks behind 2018’s Spider-Man & the Ratchet & Clank series) revealed that they are working on an original Wolverine title! Although no release date was revealed, gamers haven’t had the opportunity to incarnate ‘Weapon X’ since ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ released back in 2014!

[Gameplay Trailer] Gran Turismo 7 (PS5)

Racing enthusiasts will be overjoyed to learn that they don’t have to wait for too much longer until they can play the next instalment in Polyphony’s long running Gran Turismo series! With the game set to launch on March 4th 2022.

[Announcement Trailer] Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (PS5)

Insomniac Games appear to be truly living up to their name as they dropped a trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 alongside their Wolverine trailer. Though we’ll have to wait until 2023 to play as old spidey again, there’s more than enough to make that wait worthwhile. Both Peter Parker and Miles Morales will feature alongside the much anticipated Venom. Need I say more?

[Gameplay Trailer] God of War: Ragnarök (PS5)

Touted as being the final instalment in the Norse Mythology series, we got the opportunity to see Kratos and Atreus in action once again. As usual, anything God of War stole the show, especially after seeing the renders of characters we’ll meet in the game. I for one am glad Sony is recognising the superior fat Thor and I am here for it.

More minor announcements:

[Gameplay Trailer] GTAV (PS5)

To few people’s excitement, there was a trailer for the next generation version of GTAV alongside the announcement that the game we’ve all been playing for eight years will be delayed until 2022, just to make sure those few people who actually wanted a PS5 version of GTAV were made to realise what fools they were.

[Gameplay Trailer] DeathLoop (PS5/PC)

In anticipation of its September 14th release date, Arkane Studios’ Deathloop dropped its final story trailer.

[Gameplay Trailer] Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands (PS5/ Xbox Series X & S/ PS4 / Xbox One/ PC)

As a weird blend of fantasy and traditional Borderlands gunplay, Tiny Tina’s Wonderland already seems out of place, though can you expect anything less from Tiny Tina? For Borderlands fans, this spin-off title has all the shooting, looting and wacky humour that made the games popular in the first place.

[Virtual Exhibition Reveal] Radiohead & Epic Games

In what was certainly something I didn’t have on my 2021 weird events bingo card, Radiohead revealed a collaboration with Epic Games in order to deliver a virtual experience in November. This will celebrate and coincide with the 21st anniversary and reissues of ‘Kid A’ and ‘Amnesiac.’

[Gameplay Trailer] Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (PS5/PC)

Already being in available as an early-access game for PC users, Vampire: The Masquerade’s Battle Royale was given a trailer to introduce it to the PlayStation audience.
