Sony confirms that PS5s will remain scarce into 2022

According to a Bloomberg report citing a briefing from analysts, Sony has confirmed privately that the PS5's stock shortages don't show any signs of stopping. Already like gold dust in stores, demand shows no sign of stopping and Sony is struggling to keep up as it can't secure vital components.

This follows reports last week that Sony may look at redesigning the console's internals just to make it possible to manufacture enough units to come close to meeting demand. Initially attributable to COVID affecting shipping, stock issues have persisted and become ever more irritating for consumers who want to try Sony's new machine without waiting literally years since launch or paying massively over the retail price as scalpers continue to bulk buy stock.
